Brake cables and hoses for every bicycle

Inner cables and outer casings

Brake cables consist of an inner cable that transmits force and an outer casing that guides and protects the cable. Rusted or stretched cables can significantly reduce braking performance. Regular cable replacement ensures smooth operation and direct brake response from the brake lever to the brake.

Hydraulic hoses

For hydraulic disc brakes, hoses and fittings are used instead of cables. Hydraulic fluid transmits braking force without loss, providing more braking power and finer control. Hoses are available in different lengths and must be cut to size.

Wear and replacement

Brake cables are subject to wear from friction, corrosion, and stretching. Symptoms of worn cables include a stiff brake lever and reduced brake response. Replacing cables is a simple maintenance task that can be done with basic tools. Lubricate the inner cable with grease for smooth operation.

Gear cables

Cables and housings are also used for gears, where they transmit force from the shifter to the derailleur. Gear cables are thinner than brake cables but follow the same principle. Check these cables regularly for wear as well.

A complete cable set consists of inner cable, outer casing, and cable end caps. For smooth operation, grease on the cable is recommended. Also check brake pads and disc brake pads for a complete safe braking system.
