Seatpost clamps for secure fastening

Quick release versus bolted clamp

A seatpost clamp holds the seatpost at the set height in the frame. A quick-release clamp is useful if you adjust saddle height frequently. A bolted clamp with hex screw is lighter and safer because it cannot loosen unexpectedly.

Diameters

Seatpost clamps are available in different diameters, matching the outer diameter of your frame. Common sizes are 28.6, 30.0, 31.8, and 34.9 mm. Clamps are made of aluminum or steel and available in various colors.

Materials

Aluminum clamps are light and rust-free. Steel clamps are sturdier but heavier. Road bikes use lightweight aluminum clamps.

Compatibility

The clamp must fit the frame tube. The inner diameter must match the outer diameter of the frame tube. Check both measurements before buying a clamp for your saddle.

A properly working clamp holds the saddle securely at the right height. Check regularly, especially on city bikes.
