Platform pedals

Platform pedals are suitable for city bikes and casual riding, with a non-slip surface for grip without special shoes. Available in plastic, aluminum, and carbon. Pins provide extra grip in wet conditions.

Clipless pedals

Clipless pedals offer a secure connection between shoe and pedal for greater efficiency, popular among road cyclists and mountain bikers. Compatible with specific shoe systems (SPD, SPD-SL, LOOK). Dual-sided pedals combine a platform and clipless system.

Materials and weight

Pedals are available in plastic, aluminum, and carbon. Plastic is affordable. Aluminum is sturdier and lighter. Carbon is the lightest, used on road bikes.

Shoe system compatibility

With clipless pedals, choose the right shoe system. SPD for mountain bikes and city bikes. SPD-SL and LOOK for road bikes. Shoes must be compatible with the pedal system.

Pedals wear through use and must be replaced regularly. Ball bearings in pedals can be re-greased with grease. Also check the chain.
