The EcoSavers Energy Meter with a large display features a capacitor. This holds the memory for approximately 5-10 minutes (giving you enough time to switch sockets while retaining data), but it continues to function indefinitely, even if you do not use the energy meter for a long time. A capacitor does not get damaged if it is not used for an extended period. After the energy meter is plugged into the wall socket, the display will appear within 5 minutes.
