If you feel that irresistible urge to clean (and the need to experience one of our delicious fragrance combinations), but you're a bit short on time: quickly grab the bathroom cleaner spray and make it a nice in-between cleaning session. While you're doing that, you can already look forward to that big cleaning session later in the week. no dyes, parabens, phosphates, chlorine, ammonia or acids 100% natural, 97% biodegradable 100% vegan bottle made from 100% recycled plastic microplastic-free suitable for septic tanks Patchouli has a deep, rich scent with notes of earth, wood and a slight sweetness. The scent is good for combating unwanted odours. This is why patchouli was very popular in the 1960s: it masked the smell of inappropriate cigarettes. For the perfect fragrance combination, patchouli was combined with the freshness of cranberry. The spicy, warm and earthy scent of patchouli is known for its calming properties and is often appreciated for promoting relaxation. The distinctive and spicy aroma of the patchouli plant has a rich history and is still widely used in perfumes. The fresh, sweet scent of cranberry immediately brings a vibrant energy into the air. The fruity aroma of cranberries is known for its invigorating effect and is therefore often used in perfumes and wellness products. The surprising mix of patchouli and cranberry takes you back to the time of hippies, travel and happy freedom. This unique fragrance combination enchants the senses with a balanced mix of warmth and vitality. Patchouli has a sweet, spicy-earthy scent, suitable for combating unwanted odours. That's why patchouli was also popular in the sixties (it masked the smell of a naughty cigarette). We have supported patchouli with the fresh-sour of cranberry. The difference with regular household products lies in the type of chemicals. For example, we use plant-based, natural biodegradable and safe chemicals in contrast to petrochemicals, synthetic chemicals. Every Marcel’s Green Soap product is free of parabens, acids, ammonia, chlorine and dyes. Ingredients that can be harmful to the environment, your home or your body. Do you use animal testing during the production process? No. We absolutely do not use animals to test our products. We also know that our suppliers do not use animal testing. In addition, the products are safe to use around animals. Do you use palm and coconut ingredients? Yes. We use both palm and coconut ingredients. Our suppliers of palm and coconut oil ingredients are all Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified sustainable palm oil suppliers. In this way, we support growing sustainable palm and coconut oil products. RSPO is the only organisation that actively works on sustainable palm oil products. Parties such as WWF, Greenpeace and Oxfam Novib are also affiliated with this organisation. But isn't palm oil responsible for all that rainforest deforestation? Unfortunately, much palm oil still comes from plantations that were formerly rainforest. And the soil is also depleted, leading to erosion and soil degradation. The RSPO is trying to combat all this. They issue certificates to palm oil plantations that produce palm oil in a sustainable way. This does not always go well, of course, especially in countries where corruption is widespread. However, Marcel thinks that the solution lies in better monitoring and regulating these registrations. If palm oil is cultivated in a good way, it is currently the best way for nature to meet the need for this type of oil. But wouldn't it be much better if no palm oil were used? Globally, some 40 billion litres of palm oil are produced, about 5 litres for every person in the world. Palm oil is the most effective way to produce oil. But Marcel's Green Soap also believes that we should actively continue to look for alternatives to palm oil because we need the rainforests far too much! Are Marcel's Green Soap products biodegradable? All Marcel's Green Soap products are 99% biodegradable. By biodegradable we mean that the entire product breaks down into CO2 and water within 28 days. Marcel's Green Soap products also contain salts, among other things. This is used for the pH, for dissolving dirt and also to make it a bit thicker. Salts can never be broken down into water and CO2, hence the 99%. What about the packaging? All Marcel's Green Soap packaging is made from 100% recycled plastic, also known as HDPE. Marcel's Green Soap is therefore the first brand in the Netherlands that only uses recycled plastic in its packaging and therefore does not contribute to plastic pollution. Moreover, Marcel's Green Soap bottles can be perfectly recycled again, so that new plastic is practically never needed. This is a common plastic and therefore easy to recycle. Also, because no dye has been added to the bottle, the bottles are extra suitable for recycling. Why not plant plastics? Nowadays you can also make bottles from plants, such as sugar cane or sugar beet. The disadvantage of sugar cane is that it has to come all the way from the other side of the world, and although it seems environmentally friendly, the CO2 footprint is not too favourable. And once the bottle is there, it is thrown away again and there is still a plastic waste problem. That is why Marcel focuses mainly on the use of recycled plastic. What is the path to more sustainable packaging? Marcel wants everyone to only use recycled plastic, preferably the entire bottle. Every week, some 4 million cleaning product bottles are thrown away in the Netherlands. Marcel works closely with parties in the Netherlands and abroad to use plastic that has already been used as a bottle by the consumer. And not 10 or 15% like many brands, but a full 100%. In this way, you ensure that no new raw materials need to be used. What should I do when the bottle is empty? A very friendly but also urgent request. Collect plastic separately. Marcel himself started doing this a few years ago and now realises that half of his waste consists of plastic! The bottles are made of 100 HDPE (label too), which means they can be recycled very well. The bottle is then cut into small pieces, the plastic is washed and then it can be reused for a new bottle. Where is Marcel's Green Soap produced? All products are produced at a soap factory in Utrecht. This used to belong to a large company, but these large companies often operate across Europe from 1 or 2 factories. This saves a lot of costs, but is not always good for the environment because trucks simply crisscross Europe. For example, a bottle of Marcel's Green Soap dishwashing liquid has travelled about 80 kilometres before it reaches your kitchen counter. For competitors, that is often 600 kilometres! What about Marcel's Green Soap's carbon footprint? If you want to properly assess a company's CO2 footprint, you have to look from beginning to end, or "cradle to grave" as it's called. Because everything is produced in the Netherlands, and almost all raw materials come from the Netherlands (or Germany), there is a minimal environmental impact in the production process. Regarding marketing, sales, and administration, Marcel himself manages the small company from his home office. No management teams, no international meetings, no commuting. This means Marcel's Green Soap is CO2 neutral from the outset, as almost no extra emissions occur. Marcel believes this is a much better approach than first emitting a lot of CO2 and then trying to compensate for it. And what about the products used by consumers? Because Marcel's products are 99% biodegradable and the bottles contain no dyes, the environmental impact is limited, and recycling is promoted. And because Marcel's products are concentrated and the scent is much more present, you ultimately often use slightly less. Hey, nobody's perfect, and Marcel doesn't claim to do everything possible to minimise environmental impact. But he tries to contribute in his own way.
