Description
De giraf is een zoogdier met een lange nek en hoeven dat van nature voorkomt in de open bossen van Afrika ten zuiden van de Sahara. Het is het hoogste levende dier op het land en ondanks zijn hoogte is het meestal nauw verwant aan de veel kleinere en solitaire Okapi, die ongrijpbaar in de dichte tropische bossen leeft. Er zijn negen erkende ondersoorten van giraffen die op verschillende geografische locaties voorkomen en enigszins variëren in de kleur en het patroon van hun vlekachtige markeringen.
