Dassen leven in heuvelachtige beboste gebieden in Europa en eten regenwormen, insecten, knaagdieren, granen en bessen. Met hun krachtige poten graven dassen onder de grond uitgestrekte, vertakte tunnelsystemen die generaties lang worden gebruikt.
