Their bee colonies collect nectar in the Veluwe heather area of Haelberg. The beeswax is super pure and smells heavenly of honey and amber. We also obtain the propolis in unprocessed form; we grind it and then macerate it in olive oil. The beautiful amber-colored heather honey gives the soap its soft-foaming properties and lovely color. And the sweet-spicy honey scent is carried by essential oils of bee-loved nectar plants sage, lavender, and rosemary. During a trip through Canada that she and Laurens made, she ended up on an idyllic family farm where, among other things, soap was made, with a ladle and a huge pan. The wooden house smelled magically wonderful, and on the very first day, Evelien helped make soap. To her surprise, this handmade soap, which was in the shower and by the sink, was soft and nourishing for her skin. Having been plagued by eczema since childhood, soap had been out of the question for years, but this soap turned out to be a completely different story than anything she had encountered before, which mainly gave her tight skin. Soap made from oils is a completely different product than factory soap made from refined fatty acids, with additives such as foam improvers, synthetic perfumes, and preservatives, from which the glycerin has also been skimmed. This discovery was enough for Evelien to become completely captivated by soap, the craft of soap making, all possible ingredients, and their effect on the skin. She began developing her soaps in a historic wharf cellar on Utrecht's Oudegracht. Now, eight years later, she works with a growing team in the beautiful soap atelier on Westerkade.
