Plant-based, organic, and lovingly handmade in Utrecht. Werfzeep is intended for sensitive skin and is therefore suitable for everyone. Due to their mild action, our soaps are suitable as hand soap, shower soap, and even for the face. The shampoo sticks can also be used as hand and shower soap. Plants We work with the highest quality oils: plant-based, organic, and food-grade – including essential oils – and therefore packed with beneficial ingredients. To achieve this, we collaborate with growers who share our convictions. We also collect some of the plants in our beloved Wickenburgh Forest. Here we maintain our soap herb garden and harvest various ingredients that have been growing here for centuries. Free from palm oil and irritants We never use palm oil, animal fats, or irritants such as perfume oil, dyes, or foam enhancers. We use valuable raw materials to produce a rich soap that also feels good in the sink! Werfzeep is biodegradable and, of course, not tested on animals. Except for the honey soap and shampoo – both made with honey from a local organic beekeeper – our entire range is vegan. Organic & handmade In our soap workshop on Westerkade in Utrecht, we handmake all our soaps in a large pot. Per batch, we make one hundred and fifty pieces in a block that is cut after twenty-four hours. The soap then ripens for several weeks in our drying cabinets. After this process, a piece of Werfzeep weighs approximately 100 grams. When the soaps are ready to be packaged, they are transported by bicycle to the sheltered workshop in Wij aan de Werf. Here they are packaged by a great team of soap packers in a cellar in Utrecht. Environmental information about Werfzeep originated in 2009 from Evelien's love for old crafts and natural products. During a trip through Canada that she and Laurens took, she ended up on an idyllic family farm where, among other things, soap was made with a wooden spoon and a huge pot. The wooden house smelled wonderfully fairytale-like, and on the very first day, Evelien helped make soap. To her surprise, this handmade soap, which was in the shower and by the sink, was soft and nourishing for her skin. Plagued by eczema since childhood, soap had been out of the question for years, but this soap turned out to be a completely different story from anything she had encountered until then, which primarily left her skin feeling tight. Soap made from oils is a completely different product from factory soap made from refined fatty acids, with additives such as foam enhancers, synthetic perfumes, and preservatives, from which the glycerin has also been skimmed off. This discovery was enough for Evelien to become completely captivated by soap, the artisanal soap-making, all possible ingredients, and their effect on the skin. She began developing her soaps in a historic cellar on Utrecht's Oudegracht. Now, eight years later, she works with a growing team in the beautiful soap atelier on Westerkade.
