Wash it by hand and add some wool soap. Then lay it flat to dry, but remember to pull it into shape first. If you want to felt your knitted slippers, for example, wash them with wool soap in water warmer than 40-50 degrees. Then rub the surface and felt the wool together (called fulling). You can also wash the item in a machine, where it will felt and shrink slightly.
