Our Ingredients

To produce our food, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for every 12 kg bag, making it easier to process into our kibble. With the right amount of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for your dog.

Buffalo

At Yourdog, we use meat from free-range and grass-fed buffaloes. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and rich colour, and is packed with vitamins and minerals. With lower cholesterol and fat content, and fewer calories, this tender meat is full of health benefits.

Poultry

At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken, and turkey, which together provide a delicious taste and aroma to the kibble. The highly digestible proteins in poultry contribute to good muscle development and are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables

To provide your dog with extra valuable nutrients, super-healthy vegetables are added to our food. Vegetables are not only nutritious but also have other healthy properties. The crude fiber in vegetables is good for the intestines and can, among other things, contribute to digestion.

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our food come from plants in Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, and algae, among other things, dates back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in the dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its positive properties. Depending on the dog's size, breed, or breed group, certain ingredients are highlighted. Breed-specific issues can be reduced through the use of herbs, roots, flowers, and plants.

Hovawart Specific Vegetables, Herbs, and Fruit

We have carefully researched the breed characteristics of the Hovawart. We have also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the Hovawart belongs. Based on these studies, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, ingredients have been selected that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the Hovawart.

Peppermint

Peppermint is a plant from the Lamiaceae family. It is the plant that led to the creation of peppermints. Peppermint originated from a cross between water mint and spearmint. The plant was found in England in the seventeenth century in a field of mint plants. The plant is cultivated in England, France, China, Japan, and North and South America.

Peppermint can be added to our dog food as it could positively contribute to preventing breed-specific issues related to the intestines and gallbladder. Preventing itching is also among the properties of the peppermint plant.

Peppermint can promote fresh breath. The mint in peppermint can have an antispasmodic effect on the intestines and promotes bile flow in the intestine. Additionally, it can have an antiseptic effect.

Peppermint is rich in vitamins A and C and minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Cranberry

The cranberry is a plant from the heather family. This plant is mainly found in the Netherlands on the Wadden Islands and is very rare in the rest of the Netherlands. Originally from North America, it is believed to have first arrived in the Netherlands around 1845.

Cranberries contain a unique mix of nutrients that can provide a powerful health boost for dogs. The berries are rich in minerals such as potassium, which ensures healthy levels of vital fluids in the body. These berries are also packed with vitamins A, B, and C, and antioxidants to support the immune system. Vitamin C acidifies the urine, making the bladder environment less attractive to bacteria. Adding cranberry can also have pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. The healthy fibers in cranberries have a positive effect on digestion and promote a longer feeling of fullness.

Cranberry is added to our dog food because it could positively contribute to preventing breed-specific issues related to digestion, skin, joints, bones, and nerve functions, among others.

Tomato

The tomato is part of the nightshade family and comes from the tomato plant, originally from Mesoamerica. Small varieties were cultivated in Mesoamerica by the Aztecs and Mayans. In 1893, it was decided in America that the fruit should be considered a vegetable.

At Yourdog, we use tomato at a culinary level, considering it as a vegetable.

Tomatoes are rich in nutrients, low in calories, and have a high soluble fiber content that contributes to digestion. Tomatoes also contain lycopene, which gives them their red color. The redder a tomato, the more lycopene it contains. Besides giving tomatoes their red color, it is also known as a powerful antioxidant. Research has shown that lycopene can, among other things, protect against cancer and help with cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, tomatoes contain many vitamins C, A, and B-complexes, which can contribute to healthy skin and an improved immune system.

Tomato is added to our dog food because it could positively contribute to preventing breed-specific issues related to digestion, skin, vision, and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, it can have a general purifying effect on the body.

Puppy, Adult or Senior?

To help you make the right choice between our Hovawart dog food variants, you can use the following guidelines. If your Hovawart is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variant. For a Hovawart older than 7 years, we recommend Yourdog Hovawart Senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult variant.

We are convinced of the quality of our food. That is why we offer a palatability guarantee on all Yourdog packaging. If your Hovawart does not seem to like its Yourdog dog food, please contact us. We will help you analyze the problems. If we cannot resolve it together, you will receive a refund of the purchase price.

Transition Advice

If you are switching to Yourdog from another brand of food, we recommend following these steps. For the first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. The dog can get used to this for two days. Then, feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It is important to let the dog get used to this for two or three days as well. After that, mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. The dog is now almost completely switched to Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. At your discretion, you can then start feeding 100% Yourdog Hovawart dog food.

Storage Advice

After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage container or bin in a dry, cool, and dark place. It is best not to put the food loosely in the bin, but to place the entire bag, which you re-seal as best as possible, inside the bin.
