Our Ingredients

To produce our feed, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for a 12 kg bag, making it easier to process into our kibble. With the right amount of vegetables, fruit, and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for your dog.

Buffalo

At Yourdog, we use meat from free-range, grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and rich colour, and is packed with vitamins and minerals. With lower cholesterol and fat content, and fewer calories, this tender meat is full of health benefits.

Poultry

At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken, and turkey, which together provide a delicious taste and aroma to the kibble. The highly digestible proteins in poultry contribute to good muscle development and are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables

To provide dogs with extra valuable nutrients, super-healthy vegetables are added to our feed. Vegetables are not only nutritious but also have other healthy properties. The crude fibre in vegetables is good for the intestines and can, among other things, aid digestion.

Fruit

We add a unique combination of fruit to Yourdog, ensuring the dog receives all essential, natural antioxidants. Fruit can be beneficial for the dog's immune system, and it can also contribute to fresh breath or maintaining healthy digestion. These natural ingredients promote the dog's health.

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our feed come from plants in Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, and algae, among others, dates back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in the dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its positive properties. Depending on the dog's size, breed, or breed group, certain ingredients are highlighted. Breed-specific issues can be alleviated through the use of herbs, roots, flowers, and plants.

Podengo Português-specific vegetables, herbs, and fruits

We have carefully researched the breed characteristics of the Podengo Português. We have also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and FCI breed group to which the Podengo Português belongs. Based on these studies, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, ingredients have been selected that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the Podengo Português.

Peppermint

Peppermint is a plant from the mint family. It is the plant that led to the creation of peppermint candies. Peppermint originated from a cross between watermint and spearmint. The plant was found in England in the seventeenth century in a field of mint plants. The plant is cultivated in England, France, China, Japan, and in North and South America.

Peppermint can be added to our dog food because it may contribute positively to preventing breed-specific complaints related to the intestines and gallbladder. Preventing itching is also among the properties of the peppermint plant.

Peppermint can promote fresh breath. The mint in peppermint can have an anti-spasmodic effect on the gut and promotes bile flow into the gut. In addition, it can have an antiseptic effect.

Peppermint is rich in vitamins A and C and minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Carrot

The carrot as we know it today, or the orange carrot, is the result of many years of crossbreeding. The first white carrots originally came from Iran and were brought to the Netherlands by the VOC in the 17th century.

Carrots are an important source of vitamins and fibre. Carrots contain retinol (vitamin A1) and beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. This is important for the formation of capillaries and the health of all cells. The fibre in a carrot contributes to the dog's digestion. In addition, carrots are low in calories and good for coat and skin.

At Yourdog, we add carrot to dog food because it can make a positive contribution to preventing breed-specific complaints related to the dog's coat and skin. But also to promote good vision and healthy digestion.

Banana

The banana plant grows in tropical areas where the temperature does not drop below 10 degrees Celsius. There is even evidence that bananas may have been cultivated in New Guinea about 7,000 years ago. The name is derived from the word 'Obanaana' from the language of the Wolof people.

Bananas are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, and B11 (folic acid) and minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. The natural antioxidant, vitamin C, can strengthen immunity. Vitamin B11, or folic acid, can support the immune system and contribute to a well-functioning nervous system. It can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Potassium can also help lower blood pressure in dogs with high blood pressure, magnesium can help relax muscles and promote bone growth. In addition, bananas contain many good fibres and contribute to more beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Puppy, Adult, or Senior?

To help you make the right choice between our Podengo Português dog food varieties, you can use the following guidelines. If your Podengo Português is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variant. For a Podengo Português older than 7 years, we recommend Yourdog Podengo Português senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult variant.

Transition Advice

If you are switching to Yourdog from another food brand, we recommend following these steps. For the first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. The dog can get used to this for two days. Then, feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It is important to let the dog get used to this for another two or three days. After that, mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. The dog is now almost completely transitioned to Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. At your discretion, you can then start feeding 100% Yourdog Podengo Português dog food.

Storage Advice

After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage container or bin in a dry, cool, and dark place. It is best not to put the food loosely in the bin, but to place the entire bag, closed as well as possible, into the bin.
