Our Ingredients

To produce our food, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for a 12 kg bag, making it easier to process into our kibble. With the right amount of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for your dog.

Buffalo

At Yourdog, we use meat from free-range and grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and rich color, and is packed with vitamins and minerals. With lower cholesterol and fat content, and fewer calories, this tender meat is full of health benefits.

Poultry

At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken, and turkey, which together provide a delicious taste and aroma for the kibble. The highly digestible proteins in poultry ensure good muscle development and are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables

To provide your dog with extra valuable nutrients, super-healthy vegetables are added to our food. Vegetables are not only nutritious but also have other healthy properties. The crude fiber in vegetables is good for the intestines and can contribute to digestion, among other things.

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our food come from plants across Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, and seaweed, among other things, dates back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in your dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its positive properties. Depending on the dog's size, breed, or breed group, certain ingredients are given extra attention. Breed-specific complaints can be reduced through the use of herbs, roots, flowers, and plants.

Poitevin Specific Vegetables, Herbs, and Fruits

We have carefully researched the breed characteristics of the Poitevin. We also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the Poitevin belongs. Based on these studies, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, ingredients have been selected that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the Poitevin.

Basil

Basil is a genus from the mint family. The name comes from ancient Greek, where 'Obasileus' means king, hence its alternative name, king's herb. It is originally found between central Africa and Southeast Asia.

According to traditional medicine, basil was used as a treatment for conditions such as arthritis, bronchitis, colds, stomach ulcers, heart disease, and abdominal pain. Research has shown that basil can have strong antioxidant, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties. Additionally, basil can promote digestion, aid in the elimination of waste products, and can have an antispasmodic and calming effect on dogs.

Fennel

Fennel is a plant from the carrot family and is recognizable by its anise flavor. The thread-like branches of its leaves are often used as an herb, and its seeds as a spice. These seeds have been known for their medicinal properties for centuries.

Like many herbs and seeds, fennel is rich in various vitamins and minerals. It contains a lot of vitamin A and C, and the minerals iron and potassium.

Fennel can be added to our dog food because it can support digestion and counteract bloating in the stomach and intestines. It can contribute to a healthy cardiovascular system and can have a positive impact on joint problems. Fennel is also said to promote fresh breath.

Tomato

The tomato is part of the nightshade family and comes from the tomato plant, originally from Mesoamerica. Small varieties were cultivated in Mesoamerica by the Aztecs and Mayans. In 1893, it was decided in America that the fruit should be considered a vegetable.

At Yourdog, we use tomato on a culinary level, considering it a vegetable.

Tomatoes are rich in nutrients, low in calories, and have a high soluble fiber content that contributes to digestion. Tomatoes also contain lycopene, which gives them their red color. The redder a tomato is, the more lycopene it contains. Besides giving a tomato its red color, it is also known as a powerful antioxidant. Research has shown that lycopene can, among other things, protect against cancer and can help with cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, tomatoes contain a lot of vitamin C and vitamin A- and B-complexes, which can contribute to healthy skin and an improved immune system.

Tomato is added to our dog food because it could positively contribute to preventing breed-specific complaints related to digestion, skin, vision, and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, it can have a general purifying effect on the body.

Puppy, Adult, or Senior?

To help you make the right choice between our Yourdog Poitevin dog food variants, you can use the following guidelines. If your Poitevin is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variant. For a Poitevin older than 7 years, we recommend Yourdog Poitevin Senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult variant.

Transition Advice

If you are transitioning to Yourdog from another food brand, we recommend following these steps. For the first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. The dog can get used to this for two days. Then, feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It is important to let the dog get used to this for two or three days as well. After that, mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. The dog is now almost completely transitioned to Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. After your own discretion, you can then start feeding 100% Yourdog Poitevin dog food.

Storage Advice

After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage container or bin in a dry, cool, and dark place. It is best not to pour the food loose into the bin, but to place the entire bag, which you seal as best as possible, into the bin.
