Our ingredients

To make our food, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for a 12 kg bag, so that it can be better processed into our kibble. With the right amount of vegetables, fruits and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for your dog.

Buffalo

At Yourdog, we use meat from free-range and grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and rich color and is packed with vitamins and minerals. With a lower cholesterol and fat content and fewer calories, this tender meat is packed with health benefits.

Poultry

At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken and turkey, which together provide a delicious taste and aroma to the kibble. The highly digestible proteins in poultry ensure good muscle development and are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables

To provide the dog with extra valuable nutrients, super-healthy vegetables have been added to our food. Thus, vegetables are not only nutritious, but they also have other healthy properties. The crude fiber in vegetables is good for the intestines and can, among other things, contribute to digestion.

Fruit

We add a unique combination of fruit to Yourdog, so that the dog receives all essential, natural antioxidants. For example, fruit can be good for the dog's immune system, but it can also contribute to fresh breath or maintaining healthy digestion. These natural ingredients promote the dog's health.

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our food come from plants from Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants and seaweeds, among other things, dates back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in the dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its positive properties. Depending on the size of the dog, the breed or the breed group, ingredients are given extra attention. Breed-specific complaints can be reduced by using herbs, roots, flowers and plants.

Portuguese Sheepdog specific vegetables, herbs and fruits

We have carefully researched the breed characteristics of the Portuguese Sheepdog. We have also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the Portuguese Sheepdog belongs. From these studies, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, ingredients have been selected that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the Portuguese Sheepdog.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is a body-own substance that can be found in joints, cartilage, joint fluid and tendons. Glucosamine stimulates the production of cartilage and keeps joints supple.

Glucosamine is one of the most commonly used supplements for dogs with osteoarthritis and/or joint problems. This is not only the case for older dogs, or (overweight) dogs, but also increasingly for younger, very agile dogs. For example, due to a hereditary predisposition to joint problems. For these and other reasons, glucosamine is added to our dog food.

Apple

The apple tree is a tree of the genus Malus, on which the well-known hand apples grow, especially in the northern hemisphere. The apple grows in temperate regions.

Dietary fiber has a versatile effect in the digestive tract. They are able to absorb moisture, making the stool soft and supple. Dietary fiber also causes an increase in volume in the intestines. This not only stimulates the functioning of the intestines, but also ensures a thorough removal of waste products.

Apples are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. In addition, apples are rich in pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber that contributes to supporting a healthy intestinal flora. It also contributes to the palatability of the kibble and apples are low in calories.

Rich in vitamin A and C. Vitamin A is good for the skin and coat and strengthens the immune system. Vitamin C ensures the development of muscle and bone during the young years.

Carrot

The carrot as we know it today, or the orange carrot, is the result of many years of cross-breeding. The first white carrots originally came from Iran and were brought to the Netherlands by the VOC in the 17th century.

Carrots are an important source of vitamins and fiber. For example, carrots contain retinol (vitamin A1) and beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. This is important for the formation of capillaries and the health of all cells. The fibers in a carrot contribute to the dog's digestion. In addition, carrots are low in calories and good for coat and skin.

At Yourdog, we add carrot to dog food because it can make a positive contribution to preventing breed-specific complaints related to the dog's coat and skin. But also to promote good vision and healthy digestion.

Puppy, adult or senior?

To help you make the right choice between our Portuguese Sheepdog dog food varieties, you can use the following guidelines. If your Portuguese Sheepdog is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variety. For a Portuguese Sheepdog older than 7 years, we recommend the Yourdog Portuguese Sheepdog senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult variety.

We are convinced of the quality of our food. That is why we provide a palatability guarantee on all Yourdog packaging. If your Portuguese Sheepdog does not seem to like its Yourdog dog food, please contact us. We will help you analyze the problems. If we cannot find a solution together, you will get your purchase amount back from us.

Transition advice

If you are switching to Yourdog from another brand of food, we recommend following these steps. For the first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. The dog can get used to this for two days. Then feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It is important that you let the dog get used to this again for two or three days. Then mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. The dog is now almost completely switched to Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. At your own discretion, you can then start feeding 100% Yourdog Portuguese Sheepdog dog food.

Storage advice

After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage container or barrel in a dry, cool and dark place. It is best not to put the food loosely in the barrel, but to put it in the barrel with the entire bag, which you close as best as possible.
