Our ingredients

To make our food, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for a 12 kg bag, so that it can be processed better into our kibble. With the right amount of vegetables, fruit, and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for dogs.

Buffalo

At Yourdog, we use meat from free-range and grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and rich colour, and is packed with vitamins and minerals. With lower cholesterol and fat content and fewer calories, this tender meat is brimming with health benefits.

Poultry

At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken, and turkey, which together provide a delicious taste and aroma to the kibble. The highly digestible proteins in poultry ensure good muscle development and are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables

To provide dogs with extra valuable nutrients, super healthy vegetables are added to our food. Thus, vegetables are not only nutritious, but they also have other healthy properties. The crude fibre in vegetables is good for the intestines and can contribute to digestion, among other things.

Fruit

We add a unique combination of fruit to Yourdog, ensuring your dog gets all the essential, natural antioxidants. For example, fruit can be good for your dog's immune system, but it can also contribute to fresh breath or maintaining healthy digestion. These natural ingredients promote your dog's health.

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our food come from plants in Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, and algae, among others, dates back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in a dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its positive properties. Depending on the dog's size, breed, or breed group, certain ingredients are highlighted. Breed-specific issues can be alleviated by using herbs, roots, flowers, and plants.

Sheltie specific vegetables, herbs and fruit

We have carefully researched the breed characteristics of the Sheltie. We have also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the Sheltie belongs. From these studies, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, ingredients have been selected that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the Sheltie.

Thyme

Thyme is a genus from the mint family. It includes herbaceous or woody plants with a very aromatic scent. Thyme has been used by the Greeks and Romans as a medicinal herb for lung diseases, rheumatism, paralysis, stomach cramps, tumours, headaches, colic, and nervous weaknesses.

The medicinal properties of thyme are confirmed by the high values of vitamin K it contains. In addition, thyme also contains a lot of iron, as well as the minerals calcium and manganese. It also contains the amino acid tryptophan and a significant amount of fibre.

Thyme has anti-inflammatory properties and a powerful antibacterial and antifungal effect. In addition, it stimulates the production of white blood cells and strengthens the immune system. Thyme is rich in antioxidants and effectively combats free radicals.

At Yourdog, we add thyme to our dog food because it could contribute positively to preventing breed-specific complaints related to rheumatism, paralysis, stomach, and nerves. Thyme is also a natural bactericide.

Apple

The apple tree is a tree from the genus Malus, on which the common eating apples, mainly known in the Northern Hemisphere, grow. The apple grows in temperate regions.

Dietary fibres have a versatile effect on the digestive tract. They are able to absorb moisture, making stools soft and smooth. Dietary fibres also increase the volume in the intestines. This not only stimulates intestinal function but also ensures thorough removal of waste products.

Apples are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibre. In addition, apples are rich in pectin. Pectin is a soluble fibre that helps support healthy gut flora. It also contributes to the palatability of the kibble, and apples are low in calories.

Rich in vitamins A and C. Vitamin A is good for the skin and coat and strengthens the immune system. Vitamin C ensures the development of muscle and bone during the early years.

Banana

The banana plant grows in tropical areas where the temperature does not drop below 10 degrees Celsius. There is even evidence that the banana was cultivated in New Guinea about 7,000 years ago. The name is derived from the word 'Obanaana' from the language of the Wolof people.

Bananas are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, and B11 (folic acid), and the minerals potassium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. The natural antioxidant, vitamin C, can strengthen immunity. Vitamin B11, or folic acid, can support the immune system and contribute to a well-functioning nervous system. It can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, potassium can help lower blood pressure in dogs with high blood pressure, magnesium can help relax muscles and promote bone growth. Bananas also contain many good fibres and promote more good bacteria in the intestines.

Puppy, adult or senior?

To help you make the right choice between our variants of Sheltie dog food, you can use the following guidelines. If your Sheltie is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variant. For a Sheltie older than 7 years, we recommend Yourdog Sheltie senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult variant.

We are convinced of the quality of our food. That is why we provide a palatability guarantee on all Yourdog packages. If your Sheltie does not seem to like its Yourdog dog food, please contact us. We will help you analyse the problems. If we cannot resolve it together, you will receive a refund of the purchase price.

Transition advice

If you are switching to Yourdog from another feed brand, we advise you to follow these steps. For the first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. The dog can get used to this for two days. Then feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It is important that you let the dog get used to this again for two or three days. Then mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. The dog is now almost completely switched to Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. After this, you can start feeding 100% Yourdog Sheltie dog food at your discretion.

Storage advice

After opening the Yourdog package, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage container or bin in a dry, cool, and dark place. It is best not to put the food loosely in the bin, but to place the entire bag, which you seal as well as possible, into the bin.
